Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an inquiry against an Assistant Engineer of the Haryana National Bio-Resources Corporation (NBRC) after it was revealed that his assets nearly doubled within two years. The agency has officially registered a case under provisions related to disproportionate assets and corruption.

According to CBI sources, preliminary investigations indicate that the officer’s declared income could not justify the acquisition of property and other assets accumulated over the two-year period. The probe will focus on uncovering the sources of the unexplained wealth and determining whether any misuse of office or public funds occurred.

The Assistant Engineer, whose identity is being kept confidential pending formal investigation, is reportedly cooperating with the agency. Investigators have already begun scrutinizing his bank accounts, property records, and financial transactions to establish a clear picture of the alleged discrepancies.

The CBI’s action comes amid the Haryana government’s ongoing efforts to maintain transparency and accountability within public services. Officials have emphasized that no individual, regardless of position, will be exempt from investigation if there is evidence of corruption or financial irregularities.

Anti-corruption experts say that cases of disproportionate assets in government departments are serious offenses, as they not only violate public trust but also reflect poorly on administrative efficiency. A swift investigation and legal action, they note, is crucial to maintain confidence in governance.

The CBI has reportedly formed a special team to fast-track the probe and ensure that all evidence is collected meticulously. Legal experts suggest that, if found guilty, the officer could face stringent penalties, including imprisonment and confiscation of unlawfully acquired assets.

This case also serves as a warning to public officials across the state, highlighting that the vigilance of central investigative agencies has increased, especially in cases where rapid accumulation of wealth is observed without corresponding income.

The Haryana NBRC is a government organization responsible for managing bio-resources and related projects. Transparency in such organizations is considered critical to prevent misuse of public funds and ensure that developmental initiatives are implemented effectively.

The CBI investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming weeks as officials delve deeper into the financial records and property details of the Assistant Engineer.
