CBI files two more cases in connection with Bengal poll violence
total 11 cases taken up
New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) CBI on Friday registered two more cases in connection with post-poll violence in West Bengal, taking the number of cases to 11, an official statement said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation filed nine cases on Thursday.
These cases were earlier registered in different police stations of West Bengal on various allegations. CBI took over the investigation of these cases following a direction of the Calcutta High Court.
The cases are related to charges of murder, attempt to murder and gang rape.
One of the cases is about an attack with bamboos and sharp-edged weapons in Nadia district while another is from Bankura district, in which three people have been accused of kidnapping and murder.
Another case from Bankura is against 30 accused, who vandalised a house and sexually harassed the female members. They have also been accusing of kidnapping, murdering, and hanging a man.
In a case from North Parganas, the accused ransacked the victim’s house, and also hurled a bomb which lead to a person’s death.
CBI was directed by the Calcutta High Court to take over these cases and started probe into violence that happened after assembly election results in West Bengal were announced early this year, said a CBI official.
The HC gave directives after a committee set up by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) submitted its detailed report to HC on the violence.
The agency has already started probe all these cases and visiting crime scenes to take stock of evidence.
