CBI court defers sentencing of Dera Sacha Sauda chief & others till Oct 18
Panchkula, Oct 12 (UNI) The special CBI court has deferred the sentencing of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others till October 18 in connection with the murder of Dera follower Ranjit Singh.
Dera chief Ram Rahim appeared in the court from Sunaria jail in Rohtak via video-conferencing, while four other accused were present in-person on Tuesday.
While the lawyer of Dera chief asked for mercy citing his social work record, the CBI sought death penalty for Ram Rahim.
It may be recalled that on October 8, 2021, the court had convicted Ram Rahim, Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh and Sabdil Singh under Sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Dera follower Ranjit Singh was shot dead on July 10, 2002 at his native village in Kurukshetra.
