Referring to former PM Vajpayee's statement that one can change a friend but not a neighbour, Abdullah expressed hope that both countries would create an atmosphere for dialogue.

Abdullah and Lone are pitted against each other in the constituency for the Lok Sabha polls.

"This machine is a theft machine. When you vote, make sure to check there is sound and light when you vote," Abdullah said addressing a public rally.

Abdullah's letter comes a day after the SP in Sopore issued an official directive outlining the rescheduling of various political activities in the area.

Abdullah said the areas which were made militancy-free have been witnessing resurgence of the guns.

The properties have been attached under Section 33 (1) of UAPA, 1967, in pursuance of the recent orders of NIA Special Court, Jammu, officials said.

"When he goes outside the country, he is the PM of all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists. But, when he seeks votes here, he tries to divide us," the NCP chief said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kulgam's Redwani area late on Monday following information about presence of terrorists in the area.

Reacting to a recent statement of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on taking back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Abdullah said on Sunday that no one was going to stop him.

The Army, police and CRPF men have launched search operations in the forest areas of Shahsitar, Gursai, Sanai and Sheendara Top in Surankote and nearby areas in Poonch.

The officials suspect the involvement of the same group of terrorists who ambushed troops in adjoining Bufliaz on December 21 last year, leaving four soldiers dead and three injured.

After the attack, security men have intensified vigil in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

The authorities have rushed geological and mining experts to the area to ascertain the cause of the land sinking.

The family comprises six members and five of them -- two males and three females -- are eligible to vote. The head of the family is a farmer.

NC vice-president Omar Abdullah has urged the EC not to defer the polls, questioning the legitimacy of demands from parties not directly involved in the electoral process.
