BSF (Western Command) clebrates Diamond Jubilee on completing 60 years of vigil on Indian borders

Chandigarh: Border Security Force (BSF) Western Command at Chandigarh organized BSF Diamond Jubilee celebration at both the BSF Campuses; Lakhnaur Campus (Mohali) and Industrial Area, Phase-II, Chandigarh on Monday. Earlier, on 21 Nov, BSF conducted Diamond Jubilee Celebration at 176 Battalion, Border Security Force Campus Bhuj, Gujarat, which was presided over by Union Home and Co-operation Minister Amit Shah. The Chief Guest awarded force personnel and their Next of Kins with Medal for Gallantry, Presidents Medal for Distinguished Service. The Sky diving by BSF troops and Drone Show was the center of attraction of the event.
Satish S Khandare, IPS, ADG, BSF along with all the Western Command Seema Praharis saluted the national flag and paid heartfelt tribute to the BSF martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the security of the nation.
Thereafter, ADG addressed the Press at BSF Lakhnaur Campus, Mohali. He informed that BSF was raised on 01 December 1965, as the ‘First Line of Defence’ with 25 Battalions and now has 193 Battalions and safeguards total 6386 Kilometers of International border along Pakistan and Bangladesh. Western Command of BSF is manning 2289.66 Kms on Indo-Pak Border.
This force has grown into the largest border guarding force in the world with a strength of 2.76 lak
h plus, brave men and women comprising of Air-Wing, Water Wing and Artillery Regiments. Whereas the Western Command, Chandigarh is concerned, it is responsible for effective border management on the Indo-Pakistan border along with Five Frontiers i.e. Kashmir, Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat besides 03 Subsidiary Training Centers.
Despite the difficult terrain and harsh climatic conditions, BSF Jawans are effectively preventing cross-border crimes such as infiltration, smuggling of narcotics, arms, ammunition etc. Highlighting the efforts of BSF to thwart the nefarious designs of the enemy, the Additional Director General apprised the media of various operations and their achievements and said that keeping in view of the current foggy weather, the Border Security Force has further increased its vigil on the order to prevent the activities of anti-social elements and protect the borders from the enemies of the country.

Operation Sindoor
BSF played a pivotal role in retaliating against Pakistani aggression, defending border posts, destroying enemy infrastructure and thwarting infiltration attempts. BSF actively countered Pakistani drones used for surveillance and potential attacks, deploying anti-drone systems to detect, jam, and neutralize intruding platforms. The bravery and effectiveness of BSF personnel were widely praised by the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Home Minister. In recognition, brave BSF personnel have been conferred with 2 – Vir Chakras &16 – Gallantry Medals.
Rescue Operation during Flood in Jammu & Punjab :BSF conducted extensive rescue and relief operation during the recent floods in Jammu and Punjab, while simultaneously maintaining strict vigil along the Indo-Pak Border. BSF in coordination with the Indian Army, Air Force and NDRF evacuated thousands of marooned villagers from flood-effected border areas in Gurdaspur, Ferozpur, Fazilka, Amritsar and Jammu using helicopters and boats.
BSF Anti Drone System: BSF utilizes a multi layered approach involving a mix of indigenous technologies to counter cross-border drone threats along Indo-Pak border. The systems integrate multiple sensors including radar, electro-optical/infrared cameras and radio frequency analyzers to detect, track and neutralize the Pak drones. During the year 2025, BSF has recovered 278 Rogue Drones.
Seizure & Apprehension-: BSF has also carried out significant seizure and apprehensions along India’s Western Border with Pakistan to counter smuggling and illegal infiltration. Operations on the Western Border primarily focus on stopping drone-based smuggling of narcotics and weapons.
BSF has seized more than 380 Kg Heroine and more than 200 numbers of weapons. Apart from this 53 Pak intruders/smugglers have been apprehended this year.
Long stagnation in promotion especially in Group ‘B’ & ‘C’ has been resolved after approval of Cadre review and promotions to more than 23,000 personnel.. Next senior honorary rank to the eligible officials of Group ‘B’ & ‘C’ has been implemented on the day of their superannuation retirement.
Recently, Cadre Review of Ministerial & Stenographer stream has also been completed. Cadre Review of Engineering and Group – ‘A’ officers is under pipeline.
MoU with various educational institutions benefitting wards of serving & retired BSF personnel.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade was conducted by BSF as Nodal agency. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi witnessed the event as Chief Guest, in which Foot Contingents from BSF and other Central & State Police organizations participated.
Sports Promotions: Constable Anuj of 10 Bn BSF was conferred with out-of–turn promotion from Constable to Head Constable for his exceptional talent and remarkable success in recent International & National Sporting events including the World Police and Fire Games, All India Police Shooting Competition and the World Wushu Championship.
Mahila Constable Shivani of 155 Bn BSF was also conferred Out of Turn promotion (within just five months of her service with BSF) to the rank of Head Constable for her silver medal performance during 17th World Wushu Championship 2025 in Brazil. Such out of turn promotion was awarded in BSF after a gap of 21 years.
ADG, BSF (WC) reiterated that despite several challenges, BSF troops deployed along the International Border and the Line of Control are effectively performing their duties in their area of responsibility in keeping with BSF’s motto of ‘Jeevan Paryant Kartavya’.
