BSF Seizes Two Drones and Heroin Near Indo-Pak Border in Amritsar
The drones are believed to have crashed due to countermeasures deployed along the border to curb smuggling activities.
Amritsar, Punjab – In a significant development on Saturday, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized two drones and 570 grams of heroin near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar district. The seizure took place in separate incidents near Daoke village and Mahawa village, both in close proximity to the border area.
Details of the Seizures
According to a spokesperson for the BSF, one of the drones was found in a field near Daoke village on Saturday, along with a packet containing 570 grams of heroin. In another operation, a second drone was recovered from a nearby field during a routine patrol near Mahawa village.
Both drones are suspected to have crashed after their entry was disrupted by technical countermeasures deployed along the border. These countermeasures are part of the BSF’s enhanced efforts to curb cross-border smuggling, especially involving drones used to drop illicit goods such as narcotics and weapons.
Rising Use of Drones in Smuggling
The use of drones for smuggling operations along the Indo-Pak border has been on the rise, with drones being used to carry and drop drugs, arms, and ammunition from across the border. The BSF has been working to counter this growing threat by employing various high-tech measures to detect and neutralize drone activity.
While both drones are presumed to have crashed due to the activation of countermeasures, the BSF continues to investigate the origins of the drones and the parties involved in the smuggling attempt. The heroin, valued at a significant amount, further highlights the growing concerns about drug trafficking in the region.
Impact on Border Security
The recovery of these drones and heroin underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Punjab, particularly along the Indo-Pak border, where smuggling activities are frequent. The BSF has been intensifying its vigilance and using advanced technology, including radar systems and jammers, to disrupt these illegal operations.
As the investigation progresses, the BSF is continuing its operations to ensure that the border remains secure and that smugglers face stringent action. The seizure also acts as a reminder of the ever-present threat of cross-border trafficking, which the BSF is actively working to prevent.
