British PM race turns racist, thanks to outgoing PM Johnson
London: Although Finance Secretary Rishi Sunak seems to be the favorite in the British prime ministerial race, he couldn’t manage to get the right recognition from Boris Johnson. In fact, Johnson, who was forced to resign, asked those who were knocked out of the PM race to ‘back anyone but Rishi Sunak,’ as per a report by UK news agency The Times. Out of 11 contestants in the race earlier, 6 are still in the fray for UK’s top political post.
Indian origin Rishi Sunak, son-in-law of Infosys founder Chairman Emeritus Narayana Murthy, was the Secretary Finance in outgoing Cabinet.
Known for his economic management skills, Sunak is favorite No. 1 in the race for British Prime Minister’s post.
Outgoing PM Boris Johnson is putting his stake on Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and minister of state for trade Penny Mordaunt as finalists in the race. The Nomination process will start soon, yet the final change will occur in the first week of September 2022.
