Brainstorming on Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation at 55th IWWA Convention, Pune

Pune: Experts from across the country will brainstorm on various aspects of water management and sanitation like technology, development and planning at the ’55th All India Annual Convention’, a three-day event organized by the Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) from January 20 to 22 in Pune.

The theme of this year’s convention is ‘Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation, Availability for All’, informed Er. Subhash Bhujbal, National Vice President of IWWA, Organizing Chairman of Convention & Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) during a press conference.
Dr. D. B. Panase, Organizing Vice Chairman of Convention & Director of Shonan Engineering Works; Er. Vaishali Awate, Superintendent Engineer of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran; Anant Nampurkar, Parag Kashyap, Anil Kulkarni, Shivraj Kulkarni, Rajendra Antad, Dileep Pandit, Deepak Mhaske and others were present during the press conference organized at Patrakar Bhavan.
Subhash Bhujbal said, “Minister of Water Supply and Sanitation Gulabrao Patil and Pune District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil will inaugurate the convention organized at Messe Global Pune.
Experts from across the country will present their views during different sessions at the event. Individuals who have contributed immensely towards water management and sanitation will be congratulated during the event. Er. Anil Kumar Gupta from Lucknow and Dr Parag Sadgir, HoD, College Of Engineering Pune will be conferred upon ‘Jalnirmalta’ and ‘Jalseva’ awards respectively. Also, Youth Women Engineer Pallavi Rai from Lucknow will be honoured with the ‘Brij Nandan Sharma’ Award at the event along with other felicitations.”
Dr. D. B. Panase said, “Dr Rajendra Shende, former director at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Dr Nitin Karmalkar, former Vice Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will deliver a speech on the effects of environmental and climate change on water. Entrepreneurship Development Workshop has also been organised to motivate young entrepreneurs. Dr Rajendra Jagdale, Director General at Science & Technology Park; Poonam Mehta, Joint Commissioner at Pune Municipal Corporation; Dr Pavan Labhshetwar, Scientist; Yusuf Kabir of Unicef India; Dr Amar Supate, Scientific Officer at Maharashtra Pollution Control Board; Subhash Bhujbal, Chief Engineer; M. Mathialagan will provide guidance to the young entrepreneurs. This session has been organised jointly by Unicef and local organisations.”
“Various technical sessions covering various aspects of the Water and Sanitation sector will be conducted including ‘Water to every household (Har Ghar Jal) – challenges’, ’24×7 Water Supply Systems – Urban & Rural’, ‘Wastewater Management in Urban & Rural Areas’, ‘Faecal Sludge and Septage Management’, ‘Operation & Maintenance of Water and Wastewater Systems’, ‘Resilient Water and Wastewater Systems’, ‘Circular Economy for Water’, ‘Climate Change and Water’, ‘Water Resource Management’.
This convention will be having dedicated sessions on Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT including 24×7 programs of Govt of India. An international session is planned under the title “Role of R&D and technology transfer and participation of International Organization” with support from Govt and IWWA. Eminent speakers from Europe, Japan, and the UK will be sharing their case studies. This 55th convention will have participation from youth and a dedicated session is planned for Youth in the Water sector. This 3-day convention is expected to be attended by 1100 plus delegates which will be from all the states of the country. Parallel technical sessions, poster competition and 142 exhibitors will be part of the convention to address the problems and discuss the solutions in the sector. More than 150 youth have registered for participation in the event. Government officials and international experts will be attending sessions at the convention, added Dr Panase. (UNI)
