Bopanna-Ebden Pair Loses in First Match at ATP Finals, Zverev Beats Rublev
Bopanna Faces Tough Start in Fourth ATP Finals, Zverev Seeks Third Title
Bopanna and Ebden Lose in First Group Match at ATP Finals:
The Indian-Australian duo of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden suffered a defeat in their opening match at the ATP Finals. They were defeated by the Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, with a scoreline of 2-6, 3-6. Bolelli and Vavassori’s victory also avenged their loss to Bopanna and Ebden in the Australian Open final. This was Bopanna’s fourth appearance at the ATP Finals, but despite a valiant effort, the duo couldn’t secure a win in their first match.
Zverev Dominates Rublev for Opening Win:
Alexander Zverev, a two-time ATP Finals champion (2018 and 2021), began his campaign for a third title with a solid win against Russia’s Andrey Rublev. Zverev won 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets, showing his dominance throughout the match. The German star, who recently won the Paris Masters, served with great precision, hitting nine aces and losing only ten points on his serve. Rublev struggled to break Zverev’s serve, acknowledging the challenge of facing Zverev’s fast serves at speeds reaching 220 km/h.
Sinner Wins World No. 1 Trophy:
Following his victory at the Australian and US Open, Italy’s Jannik Sinner was awarded the prestigious World No. 1 trophy. The emotional moment saw his mother, Siglinde, tear up as Sinner received the honor. Sinner, who defeated Alex de Minaur in his first match of the tournament, expressed that there was no better place to receive the trophy than at the ATP Finals. In other matches, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who lost to Norway’s Casper Ruud, cited stomach issues as the reason for his defeat.
