BKU calls off ‘dharna’ after talks with officials

Shamli (UP): Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) on Tuesday night called off its ‘dharna’ and agitation being held at district Collectorate after talks between the administration officials and the farmers leaders.
National spokesman BKU Rakesh Tikait made a formal announcement in this regard.
Earlier in the day, demanding payment of arrears of cane farmers, workers of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) parked tractors in front of the district Collectorate and blocked the road.
During the agitation, Rakesh Tikait also reached the collectorate on a tractor and participated in the ‘dharna’ and -in demonstration. Tikait warned that the ‘dharna’ and demonstration would continue until the farmers’ outstanding sugarcane price was not paid.
Police sources said that the jam was caused by the road blockade, there was a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the road, due to which people had to face a lot of problems. It may be noted that demanding payment of outstanding due of the cane farmers BKU workers have been protesting at the collectorate for the last several days.
During this time, talks were held between the administrative officials and the farmers many times, but no solution could be found. Tikait also held talks with District Sugarcane Officer, Mill Officers and Administrative Officers. (UNI)
