BJP Slams Channi Over Pro-Pakistan Congress Remarks..

BJP accuses Congress of aiding Pakistani terrorists after Channi’s controversial statement..

New dehli :In a sharp political rebuttal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi following his recent statement that appeared to sympathize with or defend certain narratives related to Pakistan. The BJP accused the Congress party of never missing a chance to extend implicit or explicit support to Pakistan-based terrorists.

The controversy began after Channi, during a public address, made remarks that were perceived by the BJP as undermining India’s security and indirectly justifying or softening the image of Pakistan and its involvement in cross-border terrorism. While Channi did not directly name or support terrorist groups, his tone and context drew criticism for being “dangerously soft” on a country that has been consistently accused of sponsoring terrorism on Indian soil.

BJP spokespersons quickly reacted, stating that Congress has a long history of adopting a “soft-on-terror” approach and accused the party of using national security as a tool for vote bank politics. “Congress never misses a chance to sympathize with Pakistan or question the Indian Army’s operations against terrorism. Be it the surgical strikes, the Balakot airstrike, or now this—Channi’s statement is part of a consistent pattern,” said a senior BJP leader.

The party also cited past incidents where Congress leaders have asked for “proof” of military actions or have made statements that align with Pakistan’s narratives, especially during tense Indo-Pak situations. The BJP demanded a clarification from the Congress high command and urged them to distance themselves from Channi’s statement if they still stand with the nation’s security forces.

Meanwhile, political analysts believe the BJP’s aggressive stance is part of a larger strategy to portray the Congress party as weak on national security, especially ahead of upcoming elections in northern India. Punjab, a sensitive border state with a history of terrorism and drug smuggling, remains a politically volatile region where national security plays a key role in shaping public sentiment.

Channi has yet to issue a formal clarification, but sources within the Congress suggest that the party may try to downplay the statement rather than escalate the matter. Still, the damage may have already been done as BJP leaders continue to highlight the incident as an example of “Congress’s dangerous indulgence with anti-national elements.”
