Chandigarh, Oct 28 (UNI) Union Minister of Jal Shakti and Election In-charge of Punjab Affairs Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that BJP will contest the Punjab assembly elections with the resolve to make State free from corruption and mafia.

He told media that party workers would reach out to the people with the slogan ‘Naya Punjab BJP ke saath’. BJP will enter in the election fray with a resolve to make a prosperous Punjab free from mafia raj and corruption. Every section of Punjab will be given political share in proportion to its population.
BJP leaders Hardeep Puri, Tarun Chugh, Dushyant Gautam, Vinod Chavda, Dr Narinder Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Jeevan Gupta, Dr Subhash Sharma, Rajesh Baga, Dayal Singh Sodhi etc. were present on this occasion.
Mr Shekhawat said that the people of Punjab are disappointed with Congress, Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party and are looking towards BJP with hope. He claimed that the Central Government has done historic work for Punjab and Punjabis in the last seven years by making SIT in the 1984 rioters case, opening of Shri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, abolishing black list etc.
He said that the BJP is ready to contest on all the 117 assembly seats in Punjab. The party has put its prominent leaders in charge on all the seats and work is on to further strengthen the organization at the booth level in every seat. The party is getting support from all sections.
He said that the central government and the BJP are fully sensitive to the issue of agricultural laws and are seriously trying to resolve the issue. Several rounds of talks have been held by the government with farmers’ outfits. He said the government is also ready to amend the laws based on the issues raised by farmer organizations. The government’s proposal to suspend the laws for one-and-a-half years was a fruitful attempt to resolve the issue after which the movement should have ended. Even now the government is trying to resolve this issue with an open mind.
Mr Shekhawat said that the jurisdiction of BSF has been enhanced to 50 kms in ten states and two union territories of the country, including the border states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam and Punjab. The Congress government and other opposition parties in Punjab are doing politics on this issue which is condemnable. According to him, there should be no politics on the issue related to national security. Punjab is a sensitive state which has faced Pakistan sponsored terrorism in the past. In the last few months, the way drones and weapons are coming from across the border, the then chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has also expressed his deep concern many times. A huge consignment of weapons has been recovered just last week. Similarly, this problem is also increasing continuously due to drugs coming from across the border.
He said that Chief Minister Charanjit Channi had also expressed concern on this issue in his meeting with the Home Minister. In these circumstances, enhancing the jurisdiction of BSF is good for the security of Punjab and the country. The people of Punjab will feel more secure and the drug problem will also be easier to control, so opposition parties should refrain from using this subject for political interests.
According to him, the discord in Punjab Congress is increasing continuously. The government has failed on every front and therefore it is spreading confusion on issues like farm laws and BSF to divert the attention of the people from the real issues of Punjab like drugs mafia, justice for sacrilege, corruption, exodus of industries, deteriorating condition of law and order, rising unemployment, shabby economy etc. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha session called by the government on November 8 is one such effort.
