Bhupesh Baghel: Policy of threatening opposition is harmful for country

Lucknow: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday warned that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) policy of intimidation of the opposition parties would prove harmful for the country.
Talking to the reporters at Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) office here, Baghel said that the BJP government at Centre is trying to suppress the voice of democracy. “Constitutional institutions are being misused. The entire country is watching up to what level the BJP government can stoop to suppress the opponents.”
He said that it is unfortunate that at a time when the country is celebrating Amrit Mahotsav steps are being taken to strangle democracy and the opposition is being disqualified, suppressed, threatened without answering the questions raised by it.
Baghel said, “Our country is a democratic country and our forefathers have made great sacrifices and fought long battles for its freedom and to protect democracy. We are not going to sit silently if there is a threat to democracy. It is being opposed all over the country, people from opposition parties are also opposing this incident.
He said that Rahul Gandhi had asked three questions from the central government, whose answer has not been received yet. “He has become the voice of farmers, laborers, poor, youth and women of the country. He has tried to bridge the gap between inflation, unemployment and society through Bharat Jodo Yatra. The question is not of Rahul Gandhi but of the country,” he said.
The Chhattisgarh CM said that the thinking of the BJP towards the backward is well known and if the party is well-wisher of the backward, then why hasn’t the caste census been conducted till now. “Why have the urban body elections of UP not been conducted till now,” he said.
