Lucknow: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), which has been leading the farmers’ movement for more than a year against three farm laws, split on Sunday. At a press conference here, Rajesh Singh Chouhan, leader of the organization, announced to part ways with the BKU, accusing Rakesh Tikait – the spokesperson of the union– and his brother and union president Naresh Tikait, of being politically motivated. Chouhan said his new organization will be Bhartiya Kisan Union (Arajnaitik/apolitical). Chouhan informed about the decision on the death anniversary of BKU founder Mahendra Singh Tikait. He alleged that both Rakesh and Naresh Tikait were motivated by politics, which was contrary to the ideology of the union. “We will not join any political party nor compromise on principles. I had opposed the Tikait brothers joining political parties. We are apolitical people and our job is to fight for the problems of farmers,” he added. Rajesh Singh Malik has been made the chairman and conservator of the BKU (apolitical), Chouhan said, adding that he himself will be the union president. Apart from this, Mangeram Tyagi will be the Vice President, Anil Talan will be the National General Secretary and Dharmendra Malik will be the spokesperson of the organization. Chouhan said that Harinam Singh Verma has been made the state president of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the organization. (UNI)
