Bharat Petroleum launches high-efficiency LPG stove to celebrate twentieth anniversary of R&D Centre
New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a ‘Maharatna’ and a Fortune Global 500 launched a high-efficiency LPG stove to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of its R&D Centre located at Greater Noida, New Delhi. Bharat Hi-Star stove that comes with a high thermal efficiency of 74% against 68% for normal burners is one of the products that Corporate Research & Development Centre (CRDC), a premier research institution in the country has developed through its cutting-edge innovation to enhance value for customers.
The Company has filed 4 patent applications and 4 design registrations at Indian Patent Office for this stove, which has received prestigious Frost and Sullivan PERP 2020 award in Environment Leadership. This fuel-saving initiative comes with a burner top that provides optimized flame orientation, an enhanced mixing tube that ensures better air-fuel mixing and unique pan support that prevents heat loss.
“LPG is very clean fuel and is accessible to Indian households since last six decades. This highly efficient stove will bring more benefits in terms of import substitution, reduced consumption of LPG at households and most importantly reduced carbon emissions.
Currently our country consumes around 28 million tonnes of LPG every year. Growing at an average of 6% per annum, it will soon touch 30 million tonnes. If this hot plate is made available at all households of the country, it will result in saving of 1.7 million tonne of LPG consumption annually, which will translate into savings of Rs 7,000 crore per annum for the country,” said Shri Arun Kumar Singh, Director (Marketing) & Director (Refineries).
Commenting on CRDC’s achievements over last two decades and launch of high-efficiency LPG stove, Dr. V Ravi Kumar, Chief General Manager (R&D) said, “CRDC has continued to evolve new core competencies and charted a history of developing top-notch products, improved processes and unique analytical tools. Bharat Hi-Star is yet another indigenous product from CRDC, BPCL that comes with improved thermal efficiency helping a family save one LPG cylinder per year. We are committed to exploring all promising new horizons for sustained growth of Corporation and benefiting the nation, in coming years.
CRDC is actively involved in advanced research areas such as crude oil evaluation, oil refining catalyst development, eco-friendly lubricants, process simulation and modelling, anticorrosion research, bitumen-related areas, novel energy-efficient technologies, alternative energy, biofuels, niche polymers and petrochemicals, product development, etc. Sustainability is at the heart of Bharat Petroleum and in this onward momentum to increasingly embrace clean and carbon neutral energy, CRDC has extensive programs for Biofuels, Solar, Hydrogen and Carbon Capture.
