B’desh: At least 17 killed as boat capsizes in Brahmanbaria

Dhaka, Aug 27 (UNI) At least 17 people died after a passenger boat capsized in Laiskar Beel under Sadar Upazila area in Brahamanbaria district on Friday afternoon, police said.
The identities of the victims was not immediately known.
The trawler, carrying over 50 passengers, capsized in the Beel around 1745 hrs while it was on way to the district town from Jaynagar area of the district, New Age newspaper quoted Brahamanbaria police station officer-in-charge Md Emranul Islam as saying.
“After getting information, we rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel are also conducting the search operation,” he said.
Several others passengers are still missing.
