Bathinda Court summons Kangana Ranaut
Bathinda : Actor and MP Kangana Ranaut’s legal troubles have resurfaced as a Bathinda court has once again issued summons against her in a defamation case. The court has directed her to appear at the earliest, with the next hearing scheduled for September 29. The case dates back to the 2020–21 farmers’ protest, when Kangana, in a social media post on X, mistakenly identified 73-year-old farmer Mahinder Kaur from Bahadurgarh Jandian village, Bathinda, as Shaheen Bagh protester Bilkis Bano. Kangana had further commented that “such women are available for protests for Rs. 100.”
Following this, Mahinder Kaur filed a defamation case in January 2021, claiming the remarks damaged her reputation.
Despite being ordered to appear on September 15, Kangana did not attend court, leading to fresh summons being issued. Earlier, she had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and later the Supreme Court seeking to quash the case, but both denied her relief.
Kangana will now have to face trial in the Bathinda lower court.
