Amritsar : On the occasion of Vaisakhi and Khalsa Sajna Divas, a group of 1,763 Sikh devotees was flagged off from Amritsar for a religious pilgrimage to historic gurdwaras in Pakistan. The pilgrimage has been organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), with devotees departing amid religious fervour and chants.

According to officials, around 2,800 Sikh pilgrims from across India are participating in this year’s pilgrimage. Over the next 10 days, the devotees will visit several sacred Sikh sites, including Nankana Sahib, Panja Sahib, Dera Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib, and Sacha Sauda.

Many pilgrims expressed emotional sentiments, stating that it is their first visit to these revered shrines. They said the journey had been a long-cherished dream and offered prayers that every devotee gets an opportunity to visit these holy places.

SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the pilgrimage is a result of the long-standing prayers of the Sikh community, enabling them to visit sacred sites associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He prayed for a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey for all pilgrims.

During the send-off, a renewed demand was raised to fully reopen the Kartarpur Corridor, highlighting its deep emotional and religious significance for the Sikh community.

Jatha leader Surjit Singh said it was his first time leading the group and expressed confidence that the pilgrimage would be conducted smoothly, with proper arrangements made for all devotees.
