New Delhi, March 18: Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg arrives in India today on a two-day visit during which he is to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The Austrian Foreign Minister and the EAM had met in Munich last month on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The two sides will hold talks on Sunday in Hyderabad House. Schallenberg, the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria, had held the post of Chancellor for a few months last year before Interior Minister Karl Nehammer became Chancellor. He comes to India from Pakistan where he is on a four-day visit. Significantly, after talks with Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Schallenberg praised Islamabad’s “effective steps” for eradicating terrorism and restoring peace in Afghanistan. Addressing a joint press conference with Qureshi, Schallenberg is quoted as saying that Pakistan had made an immense contribution towards ensuring peace and stability in the region. He also praised the special Economic Zones (SEZs) under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which he said offered attractive incentives and tax concessions for Austrian investment. The Pakistani side raised the Kashmir issue during talks with him. UNI
