Sydney : Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with both the Indian and Australian cricket teams on Wednesday ahead of the decisive fifth Test in Sydney, praising Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his stellar performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
With Australia leading the series 2-1, the outcome of the Sydney Test will determine whether the hosts reclaim the coveted trophy after more than a decade. Albanese expressed his admiration for both teams, calling their efforts in the series an “incredible summer of cricket.”
On Bumrah, Albanese acknowledged the Indian pacer’s outstanding contributions, particularly his 30 wickets in the series, and his record as the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 wickets in just 44 matches. The PM jokingly remarked, “We could pass a law here that says he has to bowl left-handed or off one step,” highlighting the excitement Bumrah brings to every spell.
As the fifth Test approaches, Albanese also noted the special atmosphere at the SCG, where the McGrath Foundation’s annual Pink Test will see fans in a sea of pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
