PM Modi congratulates Australian PM-elect
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Australian PM-designate Anthony Albanese, leader of the Labor Party, for his party’s win in the general elections and said he looks forward to working with him to strengthen the strategic ties. The two leaders would be meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday for the Quad summit and also for the bilateral talks. In a tweet, he said: “Congratulations @AlboMP for the victory of the Australian Labor Party, and your election as the Prime Minister! “I look forward to working towards further strengthening our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and for shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.” Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell, in a tweet, said that Australia’s Prime Minister-elect is no stranger to India having travelled to the country as a backpacker in 1991 and also led a parliamentary delegation to India in 2018. “Australia’s Prime Minister-elect @AlboMP is no stranger to India having travelled the country as a backpacker in 1991 and led a parliamentary delegation in 2018. “During the campaign he also committed to deepen India-Australia economic, strategic and people-to-people links. #democracy #dosti”.
