Canberra/New Delhi, April 9: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Saturday cooked khichdi, a favorite of “dear friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, to celebrate the new Australia-India trade agreement. In an Instagram post, the Australian PM posted a picture of him cooking khichdi in his kitchen. “To celebrate our new trade agreement with India, the curries I chose to cook for curry night tonight are all from my dear friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujurat province, including his favorite Khichdi. “Jen, girls and mum all approve,” he posted with a thums up emoji. On April 2, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan signed the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (Ind-Aus ECTA) ECTA, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison. The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement will offer zero duty access to India for about 96.4 per cent of exports, among other benefits. Both governments say the deal will boost bilateral trade to $45-50 billion over five years Prime Minister Modi said, “The trade pact truly is a watershed moment for our relations.” The two countries aim to take their bilateral trade from $27.5 billion to $100 billion in eight years, the trade ministers of the two countries said on Wednesday, days after striking the interim trade deal.
