While Opposition Leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge is rooting for Rahul Gandhi to lead the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi is disinclined. He expressed his preference for Rahul from Kalaburagi in Karnataka, where he is ostensibly making arrangements for Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“I personally want Rahul Gandhi to become AICC president. I met Sonia Gandhi recently and told her that Rahul should lead the party, but she told me that nobody from the family would contest the election,” he told reporters in a press conference here on Sunday.
Replying to a query, Kharge said ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has been receiving an overwhelming response from the people.
Kharge said he had written two letters for taking up development works including expansion of Kalaburagi airport in Kalyana Karnataka region, but to no avail.
He also alleged that more than half the funds earmarked for Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board in the last budget has not been released yet.
Kharge defined the union government as an autocrat which misuses central agencies and “hands” over PSUs to the private sector.
