Lucknow: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel was on Friday once again elected as the national president of Apna Dal (Sonelal) in the first national convention of the party held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.
During the convention, chief election officer and former national president Jawahar Lal Patel announced that as only one nomination has been received for the post of the national president Anupriya Patel is being elected unopposed.
After being elected as the national president, Anupriya said, “I am the daughter of a lion, I can’t back down.”
Encouraging the party workers, she said they should not get disheartened by the criticism. “The manner in which the party is progressing criticism is obvious. When my father Dr Sonelal Patel died on October 17, 2009, I got married just 20 days before. I didn’t even know the ABCD of politics, but at that time the party people gave me the responsibility of Apna Dal general secretary,” she said.
The national president said she contested the assembly election for the first time in 2012 from Rohaniya seat in Varanasi and to take forward the ideology of social justice of Dr Sonelal Patel, people elected her. “In the 2014 Lok Sabha election our party contested two seats and won both. In 2017 assembly polls candidates of Apna Dal (S) contested 11 seats and won 9. Out strike rate in 2019 Lok Sabha election was 100 per cent. In the 2022 assembly polls the party won 12 out of 17 seats. This expansion of the party is the result of the hard work of the soldiers of Dr Sonelal Patel,” she said.
Anupriya said those who used to ridicule Apna Dal and demoralize the workers are having stomach ache after witnessing such a rapid expansion of the ideology of social justice. “Conspiracies are being hatched to defame by leveling baseless allegations,” she said.
She called upon the workers to work round the clock keeping in mind Lok Sabha polls in 2024. “The manner in which you have brought success to the party so far, this process has to be continued further and a new record of success has to be set and maximum participation of your people’s representatives has to be ensured,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, senior party leader and minister in Yogi cabinet Ashish Patel said the success of the party is the result of the hard work and dedication of crores of Apna Dal (S) workers. “As the party is progressing several types of protest are coming to fore. Today it has become a trend to hog the limelight by insulting a big leader. We should remain alert from such opponents,” he said. (UNI)
