NEW DELHI: This week, Parliament is set to take up the Bill that will replace the Center’s Ordinance governing the control of services in Delhi.

In both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the administration has the bill on its agenda for this week.

On Friday, the government’s business was reported to the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, who also noted that the bill would be on the official agenda the following week.

V Muraleedharan, a minister of state for parliamentary affairs, told Rajya Sabha on Friday of the government’s agenda for the upcoming week.

The ordinance introduced by the Centre in May that excluded “services” from the legislative authority of the Delhi legislative assembly is intended to be replaced by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Days after the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the control of services in Delhi, the ordinance was introduced.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has been pleading with the opposition parties to oppose the Ordinance.

The AAP had previously said that it will oppose the measure alongside other like-minded Opposition parties before the monsoon session even began. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and other members would also reject the Bill.

When the Bill is put to a vote, the KCR-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which is not a member of the Opposition alliance, has also declared that it will reject it.Its position will encourage the opposition camp, which is attempting to enlist the backing of all parties in order to outnumber the BJP in the Rajya Sabha.
