Lucknow, 17 Dec: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments of indulging in corruption and nepotism and said that governments led by these two parties distributed sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh among their cronies.

Shah on Friday inaugurated 28 warehouses constructed at the cost of Rs 155 crores, bank headquarter building and 23 new branches of Uttar Pradesh Co-operative Bank in a function held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan here.

“At one time Behanji (Mayawati) and Akhilesh closed sugar mills and sold them to their cronies, which have been restarted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” he said.

The minister said that the co-operative department became the biggest center of corruption in UP. But after Yogi became the CM the condition of the department changed and now the department is serving the people of the state with full zeal.

He said that there were times when co-operative movement became a puppet in the hands of select few people. Those sitting in power used to exploit farmers, labour and women.
“When we formed the government, we added the institutions related to the state government, then the co-operative department participated enthusiastically,” he added.

He said that today co-operative banks seem to be executing their roles as per the expectations and and providing benefits of all schemes related to the people.
Shah said that only the co-operative department can work for the upliftment of the last person of the society.

He said that before 2017 every system in UP had collapsed, there was corruption and nepotism everywhere, which Yogi ended. Shah said that Yogi stopped corruption in the system right from the top to bottom.

The minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled 70 year old demand of creating and Cooperative Ministry. “There was a long pending demand that co-operatives take the center stage so the poor and backward can get benefits of schemes. That dream has been realised today.”

He said that 19 per cent financing of farmers is done by the Co-operative department. Farmers get maximum fertilizers from the department. Procurement of milk, wheat and paddy is also done by the department. Co-operative is backbone of the development of rural areas.

Referring to the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said that after formation of Modi government we are witnessing rejuvenation of Hindu religion. Today faith is being given due respect, our religious places are getting new identity.
