Afghan Man Nabbed by ATS in Jabalpur
Lived secretly for 10 years, secured Indian passport through marriage….
Jabalpur In a startling security breach, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has apprehended an Afghan national who had been living illegally in India for the past 10 years. The man, whose identity has not been fully disclosed yet, reportedly entered India under suspicious circumstances and managed to remain undetected for over a decade by carefully building a false identity.
Authorities said the Afghan citizen had married an Indian woman and used the marriage as a cover to obtain a valid Indian passport. With this passport, he not only posed as an Indian citizen but also accessed several services and benefits available to residents.
What has truly alarmed the investigating officers is the recovery of confidential and sensitive documents during the raid. While officials are yet to release the nature of these documents, sources confirm that they could have posed a significant threat to national security. The ATS, along with central intelligence agencies, is now closely investigating how the man accessed these documents and whether he was part of any larger espionage or terror network.
According to local sources, the man had been residing in a densely populated area of Jabalpur under an assumed name and blended in well with the community. “No one suspected a thing. He spoke Hindi fluently and participated in local events,” said a neighbor, shocked by the revelations. He even reportedly ran a small business, which made him appear like just another local resident.
The marriage, now under scrutiny, is believed to have been arranged with the intent of solidifying his fake identity. Investigators are now questioning the woman and her family to determine whether they were part of the plan or unaware of the man’s true background.
Officials believe that this arrest may just be the tip of the iceberg. They are expanding the investigation to track other such individuals who may have entered the country under false identities and are living in plain sight.
Jabalpur Police and ATS teams are now conducting searches in multiple locations and verifying documents of foreign nationals living in the region. The central agencies have been briefed, and there is a possibility of charges under the Official Secrets Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code related to forgery, illegal immigration, and national security violations.
This incident has once again highlighted serious lapses in the country’s immigration and identity verification systems. The fact that someone could stay under the radar for so long, even obtaining a passport, raises important questions for national security bodies.
Authorities have promised swift and thorough action. “This is a grave issue. We are committed to uncovering any and all connections that pose a threat to the safety of our nation,” said an ATS official.
