ABVP students clash with Admin for scholarships at JNU
New Delhi: The clash broke out in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) between students and guards on duty when students were demanding distribution of scholarships. Several students got injured during the scuffle, sources said on Monday
Students belonging to ABVP claimed that they have filed five police complaints against security staff, however, Delhi Police claimed in its statement that it did not receive the complaint till that time.
On Monday afternoon, JNU students ‘gheraoed’ the JNU administration office regarding the issue of fellowship and scholarship as the administration has been ignoring the demands of fellowship and scholarship for a long time. The students alleged guards attacked them when they were demanding distribution of scholarships, ABVP-JNU unit statement stated.
ABVP-JNU unit president Rohit Kumar said that scholarships of even ‘divyang’ students have been delayed for months. Even Non-NET fellowship is also sought back for no reason and without any notice, it stated.
On this issue, ABVP-JNU secretary Umesh Chandra Ajmera said that despite protesting several times against JNU administration, they are not ready to answer or reply on the issue, it stated.
According to police, it was submitted that on Monday afternoon, few JNU students were demanding the distribution of scholarships which had been pending at the end of JNU administration for the last two years.
The students staged a protest at the administration office when the security guards came and tried to remove protesting students, scuffle broke out between them, Delhi Police said.
No complaint has been received so far in this regard. Necessary legal action will be taken as when received, police added. (UNI)
