Aam Aadmi Party Sweeps Local Body Elections: Grabs 83, Cong. BJP trail behind
SAS Nagar: The counting of votes for the Local Bodies Elections held on May 26 in various urban local bodies across the District was conducted peacefully today. With results of 167 wards out of a total of 168 wards, i
ncluding two uncontested wards, candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured victory on 83 seats, while the Indian National Congress won 29 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 27 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) 15 seats and Independent candidates emerged victorious on 13 seats.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Mrs. Komal Mittal informed that in the Mohali Municipal Corporation, results of 49 wards out of 50 were declared till late night. AAP won 26 seats, Congress 12 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal 4 seats, BJP 3 seats and Independent candidates 4 seats. The result of Ward No. 23 is still awaited.
In Zirakpur Municipal Council, AAP secured 16 seats, Congress 4 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal 6 seats, BJP 4 seats and one Independent candidate won a seat out of the total 31 wards.
In Naya Gaon Municipal Council, BJP emerged victorious on 16 seats, while AAP and Congress won one seat each. Independent candidates won 3 seats out of the 21 wards.
In Der
abassi Municipal Council, comprising 19 wards including one uncontested ward, AAP secured 12 seats, Congress 2 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal 3 seats and BJP 2 seats.
In Kurali Municipal Council, AAP won 6 seats, Congress 5 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal 1 seat, BJP 1 seat and Independent candidates 4 seats out of 17 wards.
In Lalru Municipal Council, comprising 17 wards including one uncontested ward, AAP secured 12 seats, Congress 2 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal 1 seat, BJP 1 seat and one Ind. (Map credit-mapsofworld.com).
In Banur Municipal Council, AAP won 10 seats while Congress secured victory on 3 seats out of the total 13 wards (with inputs from DPR Punjab).
