BCCI Leadership Shakeup: High-Level Meet Before AGM to Finalize President & VP

New Delhi, : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month, with a high-level meeting of the board’s top officials expected in the coming days. The closed-door session aims to debate, shortlist, and finalize candidates for the upcoming elections, particularly for the roles of President and Vice-President.

Scheduled for the last week of September in Mumbai, the AGM is expected to maintain continuity in certain key positions such as Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer, whose current office-bearers are likely to continue their terms. However, the leadership at the top could see a shakeup, with the President’s post remaining wide open. Sources suggest potential candidates could range from former Indian cricketers to experienced cricket administrators, though no final decision has been made yet.

Rajeev Shukla, the current Vice-President, is among the key figures under discussion. Sources indicate three potential scenarios for him: continue as Vice-President, ascend to the BCCI President, or take charge of the IPL Chairmanship. While he is most likely to retain his Vice-President position, there is a 60-40 chance he could be promoted to the top post.

Meanwhile, the IPL Chair may witness a change as well. Former BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Choudhury is tipped for a return, while Bengal’s Avishek Dalmiya, currently an IPL Governing Council member, is also being considered.

The formal notice for the AGM is expected within the next two to three days. The upcoming leadership meeting is crucial, as it will not only set the election roadmap but also influence the balance of power within the BCCI.
