1665 – Mirza  Raja Jai Singh treaty of Purandar was signed between the Mughals and Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj (pic credit-YouTube.com).

1888 – George Eastman was issued a landmark U.S. patent for his box camera.

1904 – Dalai Lama signs treaty allowing British commerce in Tibet.

1906 – U.S. patent was issued to Robert Eugene Turner of Norfolk, Virginia, for his invention of a “Type Writing Machine, “(typewriter) with a carriage powered by a motor to “return automatically when the end of the writing-line  is reached, also to return same by pressing a key-lever on the keyboard to return the carriage at any point of its stroke.”

1950 – 1st helicopter rescue of American pilot behind enemy lines.

Born…. 1825 – Dadabhai Naoroji, 1st Indian in British parliament.  He was one the earliest  freedom fighters and called for Home Rule in 1906 as President Indian National Congress.  In 1867 he presented  the ‘Drain of Indian Wealth’ theory in an East india Company  conference and  proposed the ‘Duties of the British towards India’,  disclosed that British were taking away  30 million Pounds of wealth from India every year, and that income of average Indian then was Rs. 20 per annum.

1952 – Rishi Kapoor, actor, youngest of the three sons of legendary Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor. He debuted in films with a small role in Shree 420 and Mera Nam Joker. Was launched in lead role by his father  in Bobby (1973), acted in films for about 50 years  viz., Kabhie Kabhie, Laila Majnu, Amar Akbar Anthony, Sargam, Naseeb, Prem Rog,  Nageena, Chandni, Henna, Deevana, Damini, Bol Radha Bol,  Karz, Jhoota Kahin Ka, Sagar, Ek Chadar Maili Si and many in character roles like  Mulk, Rajma Chawal, 102 Not Out. He received one National award and 4 Filmfares.  He married actress Neetu Singh and jis son Ranbeer is also a popular actor.

1962 – Kiran Shankar More, great Indian wicket-keeper, played  49 Tests between  1983-96 and 94 ODIs. . He bowled  Was also Chairman of Selection Committee of BCCI,  between 2002-06.

RIP…. 1997 – Dharmavir Bharti, great journalist, poet, playwrite, thinker  and editor of Dharamyug. He was born on Xmas Day in 1926 at Allahabad (now Prayagraj).  His stories Gunahon Ka Dewta, Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda, Andha Yug  were made into award winnig films,  He was honoured with Sangeet Natak Akademy award, Padma Shri and several literary honours. He wrote story collections Drow Ka Gaon, Chand Aur Tute Hue Long, Swarg Aur Prithvi,  The River Was Thirsty, Neel Lake, Thele Pe Himalaya  etc.

Titbits…. 1988 – Mike Tyson crashes a silver BMW into a tree near Catskills NY. There were rumors  about his death but these turned out to be false. He also supported Donald Trump in his election campaign. His estimated wealth is $ 30 million.

You may have known…. While the median age of marriage in India is rising, child marriage  remains  a significant issue, particularly in rural areas, with a substantial proportion of  young  girls and boys  married before the legal age of 18.
