Haryana : A tragic road accident occurred near Bas village in the Narnaund area of Hisar district when a canter carrying 25 passengers to the famous Gogamedi fair overturned into a roadside drain. The mishap left eight people injured, some of them seriously, while others escaped with minor bruises.

According to eyewitnesses, the canter was traveling at a moderate speed, but as it approached a curve near Bas village, the driver seemed to lose control. In a matter of seconds, the vehicle swerved off the road and tipped over into the drain. The sudden jolt sent passengers tumbling over one another, creating panic and cries for help.

Locals from the area rushed to the scene and began pulling passengers out of the tilted vehicle. Some climbed down into the drain to rescue those trapped under seats and metal frames. Within minutes, the police and an ambulance service arrived to provide immediate assistance. The injured were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors attended to them and confirmed that all were out of danger.

Among the injured were women and elderly passengers who had been on their way to Gogamedi, a popular religious and cultural fair that draws thousands of visitors every year. The atmosphere, which had been filled with anticipation for the festivities, turned somber as news of the accident spread among their families.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that the road conditions in the area are uneven, and the curve where the canter overturned is known to be tricky for larger vehicles. The police have also indicated that they will check if the vehicle was overloaded or if there were any mechanical faults.

Speaking about the incident, a local resident said that this is not the first accident on this stretch of road. He urged the administration to improve road safety measures, including better signage and roadside barriers, to prevent similar mishaps in the future.

For now, families of the passengers are relieved that the accident did not claim any lives, but the shock and trauma remain fresh. Passengers recounted how they clung to each other during the accident and how strangers became instant saviors in those critical moments.

The district administration has assured that medical expenses for the injured will be covered, and the driver’s statement will be recorded after he recovers from minor injuries. The event has once again highlighted the need for strict monitoring of passenger vehicle safety, especially during festive seasons when travel frequency increases significantly.
