Haryana Acts Against Gang Threats from Prisons
Officials to Face Action Over Gangster Threats from Jail; DG Vows to End Gang Culture…..
Haryana In a strong move to dismantle the deepening nexus of gangsters operating from behind bars, Haryana’s top prison authorities have announced a strict crackdown on any illegal activity emerging from state prisons. The Director General (DG) of Prisons issued a stern warning stating that no gangster culture will be tolerated, and those officers found complicit or negligent will face disciplinary action.
This development comes after repeated incidents where notorious gangsters were found issuing threats and orchestrating crimes through video calls from inside jail cells. These calls have not only targeted individuals but have also sparked fear in communities, exposing serious lapses in prison security systems.
Taking serious note of these disturbing trends, the prison department is now implementing high-level reforms, including technology upgrades, surveillance intensification, and complete monitoring of communication lines within jails. Any video call (VC) facility used for malicious intent will now be heavily scrutinized.
DG Prisons emphasized that prison should serve as a place for correction, not a command center for crime. He mentioned that reforms will be carried out swiftly and any officer who is found to be aiding or allowing such illegal practices—intentionally or due to negligence—will not be spared.
The move reflects the growing concern among law enforcement and the public about the reach of criminal networks even after the arrest of key gangsters. These criminals have continued to influence operations through digital means, thereby undermining the very objective of incarceration.
Community leaders and legal experts have welcomed the new directive, calling it a much-needed step in restoring faith in the justice system. They pointed out that allowing criminals to run operations from prison erodes trust and weakens the rule of law.
Meanwhile, civil society has raised questions on how such privileges existed in the first place and how deeply rooted the corruption might be within the system. The DG assured that no stone will be left unturned and strict internal audits are being carried out to assess every security breach and fix accountability.
The government is also planning to create a dedicated cyber-monitoring unit within the prison department to detect and prevent unauthorized communications. Advanced jammers, digital surveillance tools, and AI-driven monitoring systems will be installed in high-risk prisons.
With an aggressive stance and a zero-tolerance policy now in motion, Haryana hopes to set a precedent for other states facing similar issues. The crackdown signals that gangster networks will no longer be able to exploit the prison system for their benefit. This bold move aims to reclaim control of the prison system and reinforce the idea that law and order must prevail both outside and inside the prison walls.
