Chandigarh : In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Mohali Police have arrested two drug peddlers and seized 4.5 kilograms of high-grade heroin along with ₹11 lakh in cash. The bust, which is being considered a significant development in the ongoing crackdown against narcotics, has also revealed international links extending to Pakistan.

According to police officials, the arrested individuals were in direct contact with a notorious drug trafficker named Rana, who is currently based in Pakistan. Preliminary investigations suggest that the drugs were smuggled into India through cross-border routes and distributed through a well-established network operating within Punjab.

The operation was carried out based on a tip-off received by the Mohali anti-narcotics team. Upon raiding the suspects’ hideout, officials discovered the heroin neatly packed and ready for distribution. The large sum of cash is believed to be proceeds from earlier drug sales.

Police sources say that the accused were part of a larger network and acted as couriers and local distributors. During interrogation, the duo revealed that they communicated with Rana using encrypted messaging apps to avoid detection. Authorities are now working with intelligence agencies to trace the complete supply chain and identify other associates involved in the racket.

The heroin seized is estimated to have a street value of several crores, pointing to the scale at which this smuggling operation was functioning. Officials also noted that these peddlers had previously been under surveillance, and the recent crackdown was the result of weeks of technical and human intelligence gathering.

This incident further highlights the alarming extent of drug smuggling operations in Punjab and the involvement of international elements, especially from across the border. Police have reiterated their commitment to dismantling such networks and preventing the youth of Punjab from falling prey to the drug menace.

The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the flow of funds and the exact route through which the heroin entered the country. Authorities are confident that more arrests will follow soon as they widen the scope of the probe.
