1784 – Britain & Tippu Sahib of Mysore sign peace treaty.

1851 – The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations opened in Hyde Park, London. This was the first international exhibition to be held in any country.

1860 – A patent for the shaving mug was granted to Thomas E. Hughes. (Earlier, shaving mugs were a part of many men’s grooming routine. Though they may not be as common as they once were, shaving mugs are still a useful way to whip up a batch of creamy shaving lotion that will leave your face soft and smooth).

1884 – Construction began in Chicago, Illinois, on the first skyscraper, the ten-story steel-skeleton Home Insurance Company of New York (The use of a steel skeleton made the building of skyscrapers possible, for the frame carries the entire weight of the building, instead of the walls themselves supporting the entire weight).

1886 – May Day was first observed in Chicago, USA. Work, Social activities, rest, for 8 Hours.

1899 – Bayer introduced aspirin in powder form, in Germany.

1924 – The first iodised table salt in the U.S. went on sale. The table salt contained 0.01% sodium iodide as a dietary supplement, since an adequate intake of iodine reduces the incidence of goitre.

1926 – Jim Corbett killed the notorious man-eating leopard of Rudraprayag at Gulabrai village, who had attacked and killed about 125 people.

1948 – Baroda State merged into Bombay Province.

1960 – 1st of 2 cyclones in less than a month kills 35,000 in India.

1960 – Old Bombay province was divided between Maharashtra and Gujarat States.

1966 – Marathi becomes the official language of Maharashtra.

2019 – Evidence revealed that early humans from ancient Denisovan species lived at high altitudes in Tibet 160,000 years ago.

2020 – Tweets by Elon Musk saying Tesla’s share price is too high wipe $14 billion off  the carmaker’s value.

2023 – Geoffrey Hinton ‘the Godfather of AI” resigns from Google to speak out about the dangers of AI – eliminating jobs and creating a world where many may “not be able to know what is true anymore”.

Born…. 1621 – Guru Teg Bahadur, 9th Guru of Sikh panth who was beheaded by Aurangzeb in Chandni Chowk, Delhi in 1665.

1913 – Balraj Sahni, legendary Bollywood actor. Known for roles in Do Bigha Zamin,  Kabuliwala, Waqt, Upkaar, Seema, Ek Phool Do Mali, Chhoti Behn, Garam Hawa, Dharti Ke Lal  etc.  His elder brother Bhisham Sahni was a popular writer and son Pariksjit also an actor. he was also member of Communist Party of India. Was awarded Padam Shri in 1969.

1919 – Manna Dey, legendary classical and Cine singer. 1973 – Diana Hayden, model and cine actor.

1988 – Anushka Sharma, born in Ayodhya, popular Bollywood actor and wife of cricketer Virat Kohli. Acted in films like Rab Ne Bana Di, NH 10, Dil Dhadkane Do, Zero, Mantru ki Bijlee, Sultan, Pari, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Ae Dil Mushkil, Patiala House  etc. Won several Filmfare, Times of India Film awrds, IIFA etc. (pic credit-in.images.search.yahoo.com)
