Maruti Suzuki gears up to enter the EV segment with its most-awaited electric SUV, likely to debut next month…
New Delhi: India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is set to make a strong entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the much-anticipated Maruti e-Vitara. According to industry insiders, the electric version of the popular SUV is expected to launch as early as next month, with an impressive range of over 500 km on a single charge.
The e-Vitara will be Maruti’s first all-electric SUV, and it’s expected to compete with rivals like the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona, and MG ZS EV. Reports suggest that the vehicle will be equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack and modern features like fast charging, connected car tech, and advanced safety systems.
Built on Suzuki’s global electric platform, the e-Vitara will likely feature futuristic styling while retaining the strong road presence of its ICE counterpart. The design will include aerodynamic elements, signature LED lighting, and a closed-off front grille to emphasize its electric identity.
Sources from within the company reveal that the e-Vitara will offer multiple drive modes, regenerative braking, and a smart infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. The cabin is expected to be spacious and loaded with premium features to appeal to urban EV buyers.
“With the e-Vitara, we are targeting customers who are looking for a reliable, stylish, and long-range electric SUV. It will be a game-changer for the brand,” said a Maruti executive under anonymity.
Maruti Suzuki has been cautious with its EV plans but is now moving aggressively, backed by strong R&D efforts in collaboration with Toyota. The e-Vitara is likely to be priced competitively to challenge the current market leaders in the sub-₹20 lakh EV segment.
Initial rollout may begin in select metro cities, with a nationwide expansion planned later. The company is also working on expanding its charging infrastructure and after-sales service network to support EV customers.
The launch of the Maruti e-Vitara marks a bold new chapter for the brand and could significantly influence the growing EV market in India.
