CM Targets Bajwa Over Sant Seechewal’s Remark…
Criticizes LoP’s Mindset; Condemnation Motion Passed in Assembly…
Punjab : Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly criticized Leader of Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa over his remarks regarding Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. The issue escalated in the Punjab Assembly, where Mann accused Bajwa of having a negative mindset and lacking respect for spiritual and social leaders. In response, the Assembly passed a condemnation motion against Bajwa, signaling strong disapproval of his statements.
The controversy erupted after Bajwa reportedly made a remark about Sant Seechewal, a revered environmentalist and Rajya Sabha member known for his contributions to Punjab’s ecology and water conservation efforts. Bajwa’s comment was met with backlash from political and social circles, with many accusing him of disrespecting a highly regarded figure.
During the Assembly session, CM Mann launched a scathing attack on Bajwa, stating that his mindset was not aligned with the values of Punjab. He remarked that those who create unnecessary noise and controversies eventually fade away, while true leaders and social reformers continue to serve the people. Mann emphasized that individuals like Sant Seechewal deserve respect and recognition for their selfless work, rather than unwarranted criticism.
The condemnation motion against Bajwa was swiftly passed, reflecting the broad consensus among legislators that such remarks should not be tolerated. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, along with members from other political parties, supported the motion, reinforcing the importance of maintaining dignity in political discourse.
Following the Assembly’s decision, Bajwa attempted to clarify his position, stating that his remarks were taken out of context. However, his explanation did not seem to pacify the outrage, as various religious and social organizations continued to demand an apology. Many leaders from Sikh and environmentalist communities expressed their disappointment, urging politicians to refrain from making derogatory statements against those working for society’s welfare.
Political analysts believe that this incident has further intensified the political rivalry between CM Mann and Bajwa, who have been at loggerheads on multiple issues. The Punjab Congress, meanwhile, has defended Bajwa, accusing the AAP government of diverting attention from key governance issues by politicizing the matter.
The controversy also sparked discussions on social media, with netizens expressing mixed reactions. While AAP supporters lauded the government for standing up against disrespectful remarks, Bajwa’s backers accused the ruling party of suppressing opposition voices.
As the political drama unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Bajwa will issue a formal apology or continue to defend his statement. With Punjab politics becoming increasingly heated, this episode adds another chapter to the ongoing power struggle between the ruling and opposition parties.
