The news organisation late on Monday responded to the accusations made against it by saying that they are false and without support in either law or reality.

Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkaystha of NewsClick issued a statement in response to the charges, claiming that the company is an independent news source and that “any insinuation that we serve as a mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China or other interests is false.”

“Various false and deceptive accusations have been made against Newsclick over the past 12 hours on cases that are currently under appeal in Indian courts. We respect the confidentiality of the legal system and will not participate in a media trial. The claims made against us by some political figures and other outlets are false and have no legal or factual support, the statement said.

In the meantime, the High Court of Delhi has granted temporary protection from arrest to a number of Newsclick personnel after finding a prima facie case in the company’s favour. Additionally, the statement said that the Hon’ble Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Special Acts), Delhi, dismissed a complaint against Newsclick from the income tax authorities after concluding that it lacked validity.
