Delhi Capitals Co-Owner Parth Jindal Reveals Why Rishabh Pant Left the Franchise
After receiving feedback on his performance, Rishabh Pant made an "emotional call" to leave Delhi Capitals, says Parth Jindal.
New Delhi: Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has finally opened up about Rishabh Pant’s departure from the franchise, explaining that the decision was influenced by the feedback the young wicketkeeper-batter received from the team’s management after IPL 2024. Despite Delhi Capitals’ attempt to exercise their Right to Match (RTM) card during the IPL 2025 auction, they were unable to match the ₹27 crore bid from Lucknow Super Giants, making Pant the most expensive player of the auction.
In an exclusive conversation with RevSportz, Parth Jindal revealed that after the IPL 2024 season, the franchise had an honest discussion with Pant regarding his performance. Jindal emphasized that while the feedback was meant to be constructive, Pant did not take it well and chose to make an “emotional call” to leave the franchise.
The Decision-Making Process:
Jindal clarified that the decision to not retain Pant was not driven by ownership but was a collective one by the management. He further explained, “We had several discussions with Rishabh. There were certain expectations from him, which we did not feel were met in the last season or the seasons prior to that. We gave him honest feedback, but it wasn’t received in the way we had hoped. In the end, he made an emotional decision to leave the franchise.”
Pant’s Move to Lucknow:
Pant’s departure came as a surprise to many, especially as he had been one of the faces of Delhi Capitals. However, his shift to Lucknow Super Giants for a ₹27 crore deal has now confirmed that he will not be part of Delhi for IPL 2025. This move positions him as one of the most expensive players at the auction, signaling a new chapter in his IPL career.
