Russian ballistic missile kills six in Zelenskyy’s hometown.
Six people were killed when a Russian ballistic missile hit the town where Zelenskyy grew up. According to Zelenskyy, those who passed away included a young girl of ten years old as well as her mother. According to a post that he made on Telegram, there were more than 350 persons involved in the rescue mission.
KYIV: In the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s birthplace, two university buildings and an apartment complex were struck by Russian ballistic missiles on Monday, causing 75 injuries and killing six people. Residents were left stranded under the debris.
According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, one of the two missiles that struck the central city of Kryvyi Rih destroyed a portion of an apartment block between the fourth and ninth floors. The footage displayed burned-out or damaged cars on a street surrounded with trees as well as black smoke rising from corner apartments.
According to Zelenskyy, the deceased included a 10-year-old girl and her mother. He stated in a Telegram post that more than 350 people were involved in the rescue effort.
A portion of a four-story university building was also destroyed in the early attack.
The attack on Zelenskyy’s community, which has previously been targeted, took place a day after the Ukrainian president appeared to issue a warning regarding additional attacks within Russia.
Zelenskyy stated in his nightly video address on Sunday that “gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia — to its symbolic centres and military bases, and this is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process.”
It was unclear if the missile attacks were in response to his remarks.
According to Denis Pushilin, the Moscow-installed leader of the unlawfully annexed province, a Ukrainian artillery strike on the partially seized Donetsk province resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the injuries of six others in the regional capital.
As Ukrainian soldiers repeatedly bombed Donetsk on Monday, a bus was also struck, according to Pushilin.
According to interim regional governor Yevgeny Balitsky, who is supported by Russia, three people were killed and 15 injured in a store that was hit by Ukrainian shelling in the village of Basan, which is in the Russian-controlled portion of the Zaporizhzhia region.
The claims made by each side could not be independently confirmed.
Last week, a recent Ukrainian counteroffensive that used equipment provided by Kyiv’s Western partners and was intended to drive Russian forces out of occupied territories picked up speed. At the same time, Ukraine reportedly used drones to attack sites as far away as Moscow in an effort to extend the battle onto Russian territory.
