ISRO completes 5th orbit-raising manoeuvre on Chandrayaan-3.
ISRO was able to complete the 5th orbit-raising manoeuvre for the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully. ISRO has stated that the next fire, known as the TransLunar Injection (TLI), will take place on August 1, 2023 between the hours of 12 midnight and 1 am IST.
BENGALURU: From the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in this city, ISRO successfully carried out the fifth orbit-raising manoeuvre (Earth-bound perigee firing) of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on Tuesday.
The spacecraft should reach an orbit of 127609 kilometres by 236 km. After the observations, the attained orbit will be validated, according to this country’s official space agency.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon was launched on July 14 by ISRO. “The next firing, the TransLunar Injection (TLI), is planned for August 1, 2023 between 12 midnight and 1 am IST,” the space agency noted.
According to an ISRO official, after the TLI, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft would break away from its orbit of the Earth and go towards the direction of the Moon.
In other words, the spacecraft would begin its voyage towards the Moon on August 1 after departing Earth’s orbit following the TLI operation, which would put it on a “lunar transfer trajectory”.
On August 23, ISRO has stated that it will attempt to soft-land the lander on the Moon’s surface.
