TMC accuses BJP of blocking Parliament, asks PM debate Manipur in RS or LS.
The TMC has accused the BJP of trying to block Parliament and has demanded that the Prime Minister launch a debate on Manipur in either the RS or the LS. Since the beginning of the monsoon session on July 20, protests by opposition parties against the situation in Manipur, which has been plagued by ethnic violence, have rendered the proceedings in both Houses of Parliament completely ineffective.
NEW DELHI:
TMC MP Derek O’Brien has made allegations that the BJP is delaying the proceedings of Parliament and has requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi begin the debate on the Manipur issue in either the Rajya Sabha or the Lokya Sabha. O’Brien’s comments were made in NEW DELHI.
Since the beginning of the Monsoon session on July 20, the proceedings in both Houses of Parliament have been stalled due to protests by opposition parties against the situation in Manipur, which has been plagued by ethnic violence, as well as a video that was released on May 4 showing two women being paraded naked in the state.
“The #BJP is the party responsible for the delay in #Parliament. Let’s get this conversation about Manipur started on Monday at exactly 11 in the morning. It should be left up to the Prime Minister to select where he wants to begin the discussion. His selection. Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. O’Brien, who serves as the legislative leader for the TMC in the Rajya Sabha, stated in a tweet that “of course, we will then all participate.”
The government has informed opposition parties that a discussion on the matter will be launched, despite the fact that opposition parties have been requesting that the prime minister speak in Parliament on the topic.
On Friday, the Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh stated in Lok Sabha that the administration was open to having a conversation about the issue.
Members of the opposition insisted that Prime Minister Modi deliver a speech, which would then be followed by a discussion.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) levelled accusations against the opposition on Thursday, saying that despite the fact that the government was prepared for a discussion on Manipur, the opposition disrupted the processes of Parliament and did not let the debate to take place.
