Chirag Paswan joins NDA after meeting Amit Shah.
“Ram Vilas leader Chirag Paswan has joined NDA.” JP Nadda, BJP leader, welcomed him to the NDA.
After meeting with BJP National President JP Nadda and Union Minister Amit Shah, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan joined the NDA on Monday evening.
“Had a positive discussion with the country’s Home Minister respected Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi on issues related to the alliance,” Paswan tweeted after meeting Shah and Nadda.
The meeting was part of Paswan’s negotiations with the BJP to determine his party’s 2024 Lok Sabha seat allocation in Bihar.
“Had a positive discussion with the country’s Home Minister respected Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi on issues related to the alliance,” Paswan tweeted after seeing Shah.
Shah tweeted that he and Paswan discussed Bihar politics extensively.
Paswan stated that his party would attend the NDA conference under Modi after meeting with Shah and Nadda.
Paswan met twice with Bihar BJP leader Nityanand Rai, a Union minister.
The united LJP under late Dalit leader Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag’s father, fought six Lok Sabha seats in 2019 and received a Rajya Sabha seat as part of their seat-sharing pact with the BJP.
Despite a party split, the young leader wants the BJP to maintain its alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party, led by his uncle and Union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras.
LJP (R) sources claimed Chirag Paswan wants the BJP to clarify his share of Lok Sabha and Bihar assembly seats before formalising their alliance.
He wants the BJP to give him the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat, his father’s pocket borough for decades but currently held by Paras. His uncle claims to be the late leader’s political heir.
Rai met the Union minister as part of the BJP’s reconciliation efforts.
Despite Paras’s backing from all four party MPs save Chirag Paswan, his nephew appears to have inherited his father’s vote bank.
Since splitting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), the BJP has wanted Paswan back to strengthen its position in the politically critical state.
Paswan left the NDA during the 2020 state assembly elections because he opposed Kumar, a BJP ally. He supports the BJP on important topics.
