1895 – Volleyball invented by W G Morgan in Massachusetts. (The game was originally called “Mintonette”. Morgan met James Naismith, inventor of basketball, while he was studying at Springfield College, Massachusetts
in 1892. Like Naismith, Morgan pursued a career in Physical Education at the YMCA. Influenced by Naismith and basketball, in 1895, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Morgan invented “Mintonette” a less vigorous team sport more suitable for older members of the YMCA but one that still required athletic skill).
1902 – Siamese twins separated. Doctor Eugène-Louis Doyen of Paris, performed a successful operation on Siamese twins, though one died by the next year.
1946 – Demonstrations were held against the trial of the INA men. The ratings and a few units of the Royal Indian Navy rise in open Mutiny in Mumbai harbours (pic credits-The Hindistan Times).
1991 – Japanese nuclear ident. Japan’s worst nuclear accident upto
this date happened at Mihama. Some radioactivity was released to the atmosphere and MITI reported later that the accident was caused by human error. No deaths resulted.
1994 – Israeli minister Shimon Perez signs accord with PLO’s Yasser Arafat (pic credit-Al Jazeera).
2020 – Fastest supersonic New York to London journey made by British Airways Boeing 747-436 in four hours and 56 minutes, speeds of 1,327 km/h due to Storm Ciara.
