1826 – John Walker (1781-1859), an English pharmacist from Stockton-on-Tees, invented the first practical, strike-anywhere, friction match, which he first sold on 7 Apr 1827 (pic credit – Alchetron.com).
1834 – The electric motor was invented by Thomas Davenport.
1895 – Alfred Nobel had his will drawn up in Paris, then deposited in a bank in Stockholm. In it, he provided for most of his fortune to be put in trust to establish the Nobel Prizes. As the inventor of new, more powerful explosives used in the weapons of war, he left a legacy to reward those persons who provided benefits to mankind. Prizes were to be established in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology, literature and a prize for peace. He died a year later, 10 Dec 1896, of a cerebral haemorrhage at his villa in San Remo, Italy, leaving this surprize at the opening of his will.

1992 – Sachin Tendulkar, 19 years and 22 days old, becomes the youngest cricketer to make 1,000 test runs while playing in Johannesburg.
2017 – 8 Donkeys freed from jail after 4 days in Orai, Uttar Pradesh for eating plants.
