1895 – Wilhelm Röntgen first observed X-rays during an experiment at Würzburg University. After further investigation, on 1 Jan 1896, he notified other scientists of his discovery of this new radiation that would become known as X-rays (pic credit- Britannica).

1910 – The first U.S. patent for an “electric insect destroyer” was issued to William H. Frost of Washington. The invention used a number of electrically energised parallel wires such that a flying insect passing between them would complete the circuit by bridging the wires with its body and electrocute the insect.

1947 – Junagadh state on Western coast accedes to India.

1990 – Congress (I) extends support to Chandrasekhar to form Government, even as BJP and Left parties decline the request of President R. Venkataraman to form Government.

2013 – Palestinian investigators claim their former leader, Yasser Arafat, did not die of old age or ill health; they believe Israel killed him because his exhumed body contained high levels of the radioactive element polonium-210.
