1876 – American inventor Melville (Reuben) Bissell received a U.S. patent for the carpet sweeper. (At his crockery shop in Grand Rapids his wife Anna’s health was affected by dust from the packing materials. From a desperate need for self-preservation, he invented the carpet sweeper).
1950 – U. N. Assembly rejects Indian-Soviet proposal to admit Communist China.
1965 – Chinese government extends ultimatum to India to dismantle forts within four days in China.
