1862 – A balloon ascent to a height of 7 miles was made by meteorologist James Glaisher and his pilot Henry Tracey Coxwell. 1958 – 1st colour video recording on magnetic tape.

1968 – 21 killed by hijackers aboard a Pan Am jet in Karachi Pakistan.

1986 – Neerja Bhanot, Pan Am Flight attendant. She died trying to save passengers on Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi, Pakistan. Was awarded Ashok Chakra (pic credit- Mid Day).

1995 – Salil Chowdhury, Bengali and Hindi music director.
