NEW DELHI: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval discussed measures to restore peace along the border regions with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. Wang Yi, on the other hand, discussed the importance of cooperation and building mutual confidence.

“Ajit Doval stated during the meeting that since 2020, the situation along the Line of Actual Control in the Western Sector of the India-China border has weakened the strategic relationship’s political and social foundation. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the NSA “highlighted the significance of continuing efforts to properly settle the situation and restore peace and tranquilly in the border areas in order to remove obstacles to normalcy in bilateral ties.

The two also concurred that the bilateral relationship between China and India is important for the world as well as for the two respective nations.

However, India recently turned down Chinese automaker BYD’s $1 billion offer to build an electric vehicle manufacturing there, citing security issues.

Wang Yi urged India to normalise bilateral ties for the good of both nations during his discussions with Doval.

According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the foreign minister advocated for measures that would strengthen reciprocal trust and put an emphasis on agreement and cooperation.

“Whether China and India support or exhaust each other will directly affect their respective development as well as the global landscape,” Wang said in a statement to Doval, adding that both countries should uphold the “strategic judgement” that they present opportunities for mutual growth rather than posing a threat to one another.
