CHENNAI: The five Test matches India will play against England early next year (January 25 – March 7) will be held in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala. Originally scheduled to take place in June of this year, the white-ball series against Afghanistan will now be played in January (11-17), with Mohali, Indore, and Bengaluru hosting the three T20Is. The BCCI made this announcement on Tuesday.
The 50-over series against Australia marks the start of the men’s bilateral home season, which will include three ODIs, eight T20Is, and five Test matches. The first ODI will take place at Mohali on September 22, two weeks before the World Cup. The three-match series, which will last through September 27, will also be played in Indore and Rajkot. The five Twenty20 Internationals that the two teams will play less than a week after the main tournament concludes in Ahmedabad will take place in Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur, and Hyderabad.
Although it appears that the BCCI has mostly chosen locations for bilateral matches that are not a part of the international event, the main talking point is that the major centres have been overlooked for the important Test series against England. It is believed that Dharamsala received the match since it was unable to host the match against Australia earlier this year. It might be difficult for each venue to sell out of test tickets. It’s actually become a pattern over time. The final Test was played in Kolkata in 2019. Chennai and Mumbai last played a test match in 2021. March 2022 saw Bengaluru.
